Make Better Use of Federal Student Loan Services

Getting ready for the college or career school? Feel like you have lot to handle? Don’t worry; you don’t have to do it alone. Whether you need a person or a website, there are many resources available as you consider going college.

The office of Federal Student Aid provides free resources that can help answer your questions. In addition to the information on its website, you can view their videos on the Federal Student Aid YouTube channel, and get updates and information from the Federal Student Aid Facebook page and @FAFSA Twitter feed. You also can learn about events they are attending across the country or hosting online. The Contact Us page also provides phone, e-mail, and other contact information.

While the office of Federal Student Aid provides free resources and help, there are also people whom you can talk to if you have questions or need advice, help, or support: parents, teachers, school counselors, coaches, people in your community or place of worship, or someone you know who went to college. Think of these people as your support team.

My Ed Account is the official website of the Federal Student Loan Servicing. The Direct Loan Servicing Center no longer services Direct Loans. You can go to My Ed Account to manage your loan Account, access Loan Consolidation, Enroll in My Secure Messages and Make a Payment. You can also register for Manage My Account through My Ed Account website.

Federal Student Loan Servicing Instructions Attention:

The U.S. Department of Education has transferred the Direct Loans to another federal loan servicer. If you have any question related to your Direct Loans, please contact your new loan servicer. Servicer information is listed on the home page of www.myedaccount.com. You must be logged in to this website to view that information. It can also be found by visiting www.NSLDS.ed.gov or by calling 1-800-848-0979. After 11/15/13, you will not be able to access 1-800-848-0979 or www.myedaccount.com.

• Manage My Account.
• Loan Consolidation.
• Enroll in My Secure Messages.
• Make a Payment.

• If you are a first-time visitor, click the “Register” button to create an account. Provide your Social Security Number and contact information, select your security question and security image to create My Ed Account.
• Log in with your Username and password to view your account balances and payment history, print a loan verification letter, sign up for automatic monthly Kwikpay debits, enroll in electronic services, make online payments and much more…You can sign in as Borrower or Authorized Payer.
• You can also retrieve your account information in case you forgot your username and password by clicking on “Forgot Username” or “Forgot Password” links before you are locked out.
• If you continue to receive an error message when you log in, click “Help” at the top to check which browsers are compatible with the Manage My Account section.
• Go to “My Info and Preferences” to update your personal and contact information.

• Direct Consolidation Loans allow borrowers to combine one or more of their Federal education loans into a new loan that offers several advantages.
• Repay your Direct Consolidation Loan under the new Pay as You Earn Repayment Plan. Click the link to learn more about the Plan.
• Check out borrower services, school services and loan holder services.
• Go paperless for your Direct Loan bills and correspondence. Electronic services are faster, free, and more convenient.
• It’s free to pay your Direct Loan online through My Ed Account.
